Texas Bluebonnet Award is a program that encourages students in grades 3-6 to read for pleasure and introduces them to a variety of quality literature.  Books are selected from both fiction and non-fiction titles and are chosen for their ability to offer windows into imaginary worlds or into other's experiences, while  also offering mirrors that reflect the reader's life or culture.  These books are also chosen with the student's interests in mind.

 

The slogan "Read 5, then decide" is used by students and librarians to remind students that if they read five of the books on the list, they will participate in voting for their favorite title. Students across Texas will vote on their one favorite book and the winner is announced in the spring.
