Legacy Elementary Focuses on Kindness

Students at Legacy Elementary School are learning that a little bit of kindness can go a long way.

Principal Cheryl Booher initiated a school-wide book study of Jacqueline Woodson's "Each Kindness". Each class is reading the book and discussing kindness, friendship and the repercussion of actions.

"It's really exciting to do a book study as a whole school," said Media Specialist Allison Robertson. "I really think all of our students from Pre-K all the way to 5th grade will be able to learn about treating others with kindness."

In addition to the book study, teachers have been given "Acts of Kindness" slips. The slips are used to nominate students for an award that is given once every six weeks.

The first award winner is 5th grader Josiah Mayo. Mayo was recognized for going above and beyond to show kindness.
