This morning, Covenant Medical Center staff stopped by Legacy Elementary to surprise Principal Kim Moore with a $1,200 donation for the Life Skills program. The donation was spearheaded by Covenant Medical Center staff Todd Hobbs and Rebecca Hargrove. 

Hobbs heard about the needs of the Life Skills classrooms during a conversation with Legacy Life Skills Teacher Derek Hargrove. Hobbs learned that Life Skills teachers had been using their own money to help provide classroom snacks for students. 

Hobbs and Rebecca wanted to find a way to help. They created a flyer sharing the need, and they distributed it among their fellow Covenant employees and healthcare providers. The response was an outpouring of generosity, with employees donating funds to support Legacy’s Life Skills students and their families. 

No items were sold as part of a fundraiser, the $1,200 was raised entirely through donations from Covenant employees and given directly to the Legacy Life Skills Program. 

“As healthcare professionals, my anesthesia colleagues and I are used to stepping up when there's a need, so I rallied a team of fellow providers to help bridge that gap and raise funding directly for the classroom,” Hobbs said. 

The goal is for the funds to help provide snacks and other classroom needs for Life Skills students at Legacy. The monetary support will also help ease some of the financial burden for families, many of whom may already face challenges in providing additional resources for their children. 

“Community support starts right in our own backyard,” Hobbs said. “Providing these resources ensures that Life Skills students can focus on learning, growth, and developing vital daily skills in a comfortable environment. It’s a privilege for our healthcare community to stand behind the incredible teachers at Legacy and make a direct, positive impact on these students’ lives.” 

Principal Moore stated that the generosity from Covenant employees is especially meaningful because it recognizes the dedication and care Legacy’s Life Skills staff provide to their students every day. 

“Our teachers work so hard every single day to serve our students,” said Moore. “To have members of our community recognize how hard our staff work and to show their support for our Life Skills program in such an incredibly generous way just means so much,” Moore said. “I could not be more grateful for the kindness shown to our program. What a blessing it is to have a community that cares so deeply about our kids and the people who serve them every day!” 

The Covenant staff plan to continue the fundraising effort, with hopes of making additional donations to Legacy and eventually supporting Life Skills programs at other schools in the community.
