On May 15, hundreds of community members from local businesses, Frenship staff, parents, and Character Scholars hit the green at GolfSuites Lubbock for the 21st annual Drive for Leaders Golf Tournament, the Foundation’s longest running fundraiser that benefits Character Scholarships and Teacher Grants. This year marked the Foundation’s most successful golf tournament since it began in 2004, but the real celebration was the number of scholarships awarded to graduating seniors.

This year, the Foundation proudly awarded four Reese Education Center Scholarships and 61 Frenship High School Character Scholarships for a total of $87,450, the largest number of scholarships and the largest amount ever given in one school year.

“Frenship has such an incredible community that supports our golf tournament each year. It is because of them – our donors, supporters, and our Frenship Foundation Board of Directors – that we are able to continue increasing our scholarships and teacher grants each year,” said Tiffany Taylor, Executive Director of the Frenship Foundation. “We are so grateful for our community and the impact they have on education across our district.”

Back in 2004, the Foundation awarded its first Character Scholarships as a way to reward students who exemplify exceptional character, leadership, and service to others. The scholarship program has grown tremendously from awarding only five students a total of $27,500 in 2004 to 61 students for a total of $82,350 in 2025.

“These are students who go above and beyond, not just academically, but in everything they do. They’re leaders in the classroom and among their peers. They volunteer in the community and strive to serve others. They have good character, integrity, and demonstrate our Frenship Way SERVE model,” said Taylor. “We’re proud to have them representing the Foundation as Character Scholars and we can’t wait to see the amazing things they’ll continue to accomplish as they begin this next chapter in their lives.”

In addition to a Character Scholarship ceremony during the golf tournament, a scholarship recipient won a new laptop to use for college, and another won an automotive care package from Christian Brothers Automotive.

A special thank you to this year’s Title Sponsors: Aramark, Durham Transportation Services, United Supermarkets, and West Texas Land Guys.
