Lindsi Coburn, the Community in Schools (CIS) Coordinator at Legacy Elementary, brought Dance Connect to Legacy to provide an after-school group for students to enjoy. Ballet Lubbock is a partner to Communities in Schools of the South Plains and a great resource to bring to Legacy.  

“I think Dance Connect brings opportunities to students who otherwise might not get the chance to learn dance.” said Coburn. “I wanted to start up a group that the students would be excited about, and I think Dance Connect is the perfect fit for our school.” 

Over the past five years, Ballet Lubbock has reached 19 elementary schools across the South Plains and reaches over 200 students each week. There are currently 18 Legacy students signed up for the Dance Connect program. Every Tuesday after school, the students meet their instructor in the gym to learn all about ballet.  

Ballet Lubbock's mission statement is, "The mission of Ballet Lubbock is to change lives. The main goal for Outreach is to educate students in the physical aspects of ballet, the world and art of ballet through educational films, and performance. We hope for students to grow in confidence, demeanor, knowledge, and health to eventually become upstanding members of society."
