Inside the Classroom: Lexi Ruth at Legacy Elementary

Lexi Ruth is the newest Library and Media Specialist to join the Frenship Family. Ruth started her position in the library at Legacy Elementary in January of this year. However, Ruth is no stranger to Frenship. Before moving to the library, she taught 5th grade writing at Legacy.

We caught up with Lexi Ruth to inquire about her new position, see her responses below.

Why did you decide to become a Librarian at Legacy?

This is something that I have been interested in since I came to Frenship ISD in 2019. I have taught a variety of different grade levels and have loved each of them, so I was looking for a way that would allow me to continue working with all grade levels. Also, since I was little, I have loved going to the library and finding new books to read. It was always one of my favorite things about school and I wanted to continue that as an adult!

Why do you think books are important for elementary students?

Books allow a child to use their imagination and go to places they may never physically get to visit. I believe it is important for students to experience that and it allows them to use their brains in a more creative way. I also believe that the more they read, the more they will succeed in school and life!

What is your favorite project to do with the students?

In my brief time in the library, we have not done any major projects just yet, but I am looking forward to getting to do that and working with all the different grade levels to continue to grow their love and interest in reading.

What do your days look like as a Media Specialist at Legacy?

Busy! As soon as our morning news is over, we start having classes to come to the library for read-alouds and to check out new books. We have been doing our Sweet 16 Book Tournament and that has been a lot of fun! We read two different books to a class and then they get to vote on their favorite. Our winner will be announced next week! I also help teachers out when they need a resource or book for their classroom as well.

How do you work to impact the education/lives of your students?

Every time a student or class comes into the library, I want them to see kindness and someone that is there to help. I truly believe that kids learn by example and will learn to be helpful and kind themselves when they see examples of it around them.

What are you most excited about as you begin your time at the Library at Legacy?

I am really excited to be a resource for all students and staff at Legacy. The library is quite literally the center of our campus and I look forward to creating a space where students are comfortable coming and asking for help, as well as a place for teachers. I want to help any way that I can!
